Journey guitarist Neal Schon has said that the group’s co-founder Gregg Rolie is set to join the band’s 50th Anniversary Tour, named “Freedom Tour 2023,” returning to perform with them for the first time since 1980.
Rolie, who was among the founders of Journey, left the band in 1980. In November 2022, Schon took to social media to tease Rolie’s possible reunion with the band.
Schon shared a photo of himself and Ronie and captioned it: “2 original founding members. I think my brother Gregg Rolie should join us for 2023 tour. What do you think friends? He will spice it up and we will have a great variety of songs to choose from.”
Schon teased the idea about Rolie’s possible return after a legal battle him and keyboardist Jonathan Cain heated up over the band’s finances.
It is not known as yet whether Rolie will perform a full set on the upcoming tour or will act as just a special guest.
